Tarrant County, an urban county in Texas, has been conservative since the 1960s and is one of the most Republican-leaning counties. It elected Jim Wright, a Democrat to 17 terms as U.S. Wright was elected Speaker of the House and Congressman. Wright was succeeded by Pete Geren, a fellow Democrat.
The Democratic Party recovered to represent a greater portion of the political profile in 2018. It made enormous gains in Tarrant County. They concentrated in many areas: eastern Euless and Grand Prairie, eastern and southern Arlington, and northern and western Mansfield. Large portions of Fort Worth, including the Stockyards and Meacham Airport area, as well as southern and eastern Fort Worth.
Republicans dominate many rural areas in the county, including downtown Fort Worth and west Fort Worth, north of Loop 802, and nearly all suburban areas, including Benbrook, rural Mansfield, western Arlington, Haltom City and Mid-Cities, and the northern suburbs.
