Kevan McLaughlin expertly helped me out of a back tax situation a decade ago, and he did it professionally, reasonably, and with celerity. I've since hired him to do my taxes every year. He's fantastic. I would never work with a CPA again. Highly recommended on all levels, from his communication skills to his work to the lawyer himself.

As the owner of my own law firm you can imagine my level of expectations when I had to find a law firm to assist me with a random IRS 8300 inspection. I was overwhelmed with the amount of documents and information I had to prepare for the examination. Kevan made it seamless and assured me all the way through. We were able to handle all the IRS inquirers one at a time, while maintaining my own clients’ privacy issues. Kevan was always available to me, he was honorable, hardworking and diligent. The IRS inspection took a good amount of time but I never was over-billed. The end result a simple letter and a fine of less than $300. I could not be more pleased. I highly recommend. Kevan McLaughlin and his staff were referred to me in a matter that was leading from IRS audit to federal court. Despite the joyful matter of it being dismissed by the IRS and Kevan’s services not now required my interactions with he and his staff were truly professional and service oriented. His associate Robyn Coltrane was particularly helpful and prompt in answering my questions and supplying information I needed as we started this process. I would certainly retain Kevan’s services should the need ever arise again and highly recommend them. HJS

Kevan provided us with excellent and positive advice on how to handle our recent IRS audit. His skills and expertise in all things legally tax-related is helpful plus reassuring. After our initial consultation, we don't know why we didn't contact him sooner as he provided much needed relief from our audit anxiety. Therefore, we HIGHLY recommend him for any previous or on-going tax issues that you may encounter.

McLaughlin Legal has been handling my mother's taxes for many many years. We are very pleased with them. Their communication skills are impeccable. I too have consulted with them on occasion. Mauro Colabianchi in particular is the attorney both my mother and I have worked with, I give him an A+. You're in good hands with McLaughlin Legal.

AAL general personal injury Frequently Asked Questions

What is personal injury law?

Personal injury law encompasses legal remedies and defenses involved in civil lawsuits brought as a result of wrongful conduct. It covers situations where someone's negligence or intentional actions cause harm to another person. Personal injury law allows injured individuals to seek compensation for their losses, including medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering. This area of law often involves cases such as car accidents, slip and falls, medical malpractice, and defective product injuries.

What is compensation for a personal injury claim?

Compensation for a personal injury claim typically includes monetary damages intended to compensate the injured party for their losses. This compensation can cover various aspects such as medical expenses, rehabilitation costs, lost wages or income, property damage, and pain and suffering. The goal is to provide financial relief to the injured person and help them recover from the physical, emotional, and financial impact of their injuries.

Is emotional distress a personal injury?

Emotional distress can be considered a personal injury under certain circumstances. In legal terms, emotional distress refers to the psychological impact of an injury or traumatic event, such as anxiety, depression, or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). While it may not always involve physical harm, emotional distress can still be compensable in a personal injury claim if it can be linked to the defendant's actions or negligence.

What percentage do most personal injury lawyers take?

Most personal injury lawyers work on a contingency fee basis, which means they only get paid if they successfully recover compensation for their clients. Typically, personal injury lawyers take a percentage of the final settlement or court award as their fee. The percentage varies but commonly ranges from 33% to 40% of the total recovery. This arrangement allows injured individuals to pursue legal action without upfront costs and ensures that attorneys are motivated to achieve favorable outcomes for their clients.

How long does a personal injury lawsuit take?

The duration of a personal injury lawsuit can vary significantly depending on various factors, including the complexity of the case, the extent of the injuries, and the court's schedule. Some cases may be resolved through settlement negotiations relatively quickly, while others may take months or even years to reach a resolution, especially if they go to trial. Additionally, factors such as gathering evidence, conducting discovery, and waiting for medical treatment to conclude can influence the timeline of a personal injury lawsuit.

What is an example of a serious injury claim?

An example of a serious injury claim could involve catastrophic injuries that result in long-term or permanent disabilities, such as traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries leading to paralysis, severe burns, or limb amputations. These types of injuries often have significant and lasting effects on the victim's physical, emotional, and financial well-being, requiring extensive medical treatment, rehabilitation, and ongoing care. Serious injury claims typically seek substantial compensation to cover these extensive damages and provide for the victim's future needs.

What is compensation for a loss or injury?

Compensation for a loss or injury refers to the financial recovery awarded to an injured party in a legal proceeding. This compensation aims to restore the injured person to the position they were in before the injury occurred to the extent possible. It can include economic damages, such as medical expenses and lost wages, as well as non-economic damages for pain and suffering, emotional distress, and loss of enjoyment of life. The goal of compensation is to help the injured individual recover physically, emotionally, and financially from the consequences of their injury.

What is the highest personal injury settlement?

The highest personal injury settlement or verdict can vary greatly depending on the specific circumstances of the case, including the severity of the injuries, the extent of the damages, and the jurisdiction where the case is tried. Settlements and verdicts in personal injury cases have reached into the tens or even hundreds of millions of dollars in some instances, particularly in cases involving catastrophic injuries, medical malpractice, or wrongful death. However, there is no fixed limit on the amount of compensation that can be awarded in a personal injury case, as each case is evaluated based on its unique factors and the applicable laws and precedents.
