Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Denise A. True and I help people and small businesses file bankruptcy. I have been a licensed attorney for over 20 years, with a focus on bankruptcy law since 2009. I have assisted thousands of people obtain financial freedom through the filing of a bankruptcy. My cases range from complex small business cases to less complex consumer cases and everything in between. Many people feel guilty about having to file bankruptcy, but I have a "no judgment policy” in my office. It either makes financial sense to file bankruptcy or it does not. I remind my clients often that sometimes bad things happen to good people and there is no sense beating yourself up over past financial difficulties. The bankruptcy code was created to help people break out of their debt shackles and move on to more productive uses for their money, such as a small business owner with the ability to employ workers or an average Joe who can actually start saving for retirement. Many people, including attorneys, are unfamiliar with the bankruptcy process as well as the protections that are afforded by the filing of a bankruptcy. Don’t worry. I will explain it to you. The filing of a bankruptcy prohibits creditors from continuing their collections efforts. This means that creditors must immediately stop their harassing phone calls, texts, emails and letters. Most legal proceedings, repossessions, and foreclosures are also halted by a bankruptcy filing. For some, the desire not to be hounded day and night by their creditors is the driving force in deciding to file bankruptcy. The range of creditors that can be discharged in a bankruptcy include: credit card debt, old tax debt, personal loans, lawsuits, medical debts, pay day loans, judgments, prior mortgages and repossessed vehicles.
