This review has been a long time coming, I decided to hold off until my legal matter was finalized. This is going to be quite a detailed account of my experience, as it was very agonizing. The level of ineffective unethical counsel i received from Russ in my divorce/custody case was astounding. After retaining in June 2023 I was served with divorce papers, I let Russ know and advised opposing counsel was Melissa Ortiz whom he stated is a very close friend of his, this raised the 1st RED Flag. I asked specifically if this would present a conflict of interest, he assured me it would not, as he's worked many cases with her. Next was both parties coming to an agreement for the temp orders, which we did (I have email confirmation from his law firm detailing the agreement that was reached). Part of the agreement was the petitioner (my ex-spouse) would be 100% financially responsible for his vehicle payment & any maintenance, this was huge bc his truck payment alone was $797/mth. We all get to court to sign the temp orders, I notice the wording states petitioner will retain possession of his vehicle but nothing about being 100% financially responsible. I brought this to Russ's attention immediately, he assured me that would be added and advised me to sign the temp order, which i did. Here's where it goes HORRIBLY WRONG...A month or so later i get a copy of the temp order and it states I'm partially responsible for the truck & maintenance payments. I thought mistakes happen and immediately brought this to Russ's attention via email & text (both of which i have). I asked him to urgently file a motion to get this modified/corrected, to my surprise, he refused. He actually told me the temp orders were not altered and it's what we agreed to, DESPITE me showing him email proof from him that was NOT at All what we agreed to. I told him I'm going to speak with the judge bc this is a huge issue, to which he tells me he'll terminate legal counsel if I speak with the judge. If he did Nothing wrong, he shouldn't have cared if I spoke with the judge. Russ's interest in maintaining his close friendship superceded his ability and willingness to competently & effectively represent me, which caused me significant financial hardship. I forgot to mention i was also convinced to pay my then spouse $2300/mth once we got to court, instead of the agreed upon $2150/mth, so having to pay his truck & insurance was an extra $1000/mth on top of the $2300. Russ knew all of this and did NOT care one bit, in addition to knowing I'm the mother of a special needs child whom I fully support financially. Russ fought for nothing in my case, he fed me to the wolves to preserve a friendship. At times I couldn't tell if he was representing my ex-spouse or myself. If you don't listen to anything, listen to this...FIND Another Lawyer!! This guy will take your money and refuse to fight in your best interest, especially if it's against his dearest friend Melissa Ortiz.
