About Charlotte, North Carolina

Charlotte is second in the United States after New York City as the largest banking center. Bank of America, the nation's second-largest financial institution in terms of total assets, calls Charlotte home. Truist, the sixth-largest financial institution in the country, is also located here. Truist was formed in 2019 from the merger between BB&T, SunTrust, and SunTrust. It was the home of Wachovia before its 2008 acquisition by Wells Fargo. Wells Fargo integrated legacy Wachovia at the end of 2011. The two banks merged completely, including the transition of all Wachovia branches from the Carolinas to Wells Fargo branches by the end of 2011.

Since then, Charlotte has been the regional headquarters of Wells Fargo's East Coast operations. The company is headquartered in San Francisco. Charlotte is also the headquarters of Wells Fargo's capital market activities. The Uptown central business district is where Bank of America and other regional financial services companies have their headquarters. Microsoft and Centene Corporation have their East Coast headquarters in Charlotte. Honeywell relocated its corporate headquarters from New York to Charlotte in November 2018.

Lowe's, which announced in June 2019 that it would be building its Lowe's Global Technology Center in Charlotte worth $153 Million, will be located in the South End neighborhood of Charlotte. Dole Food Company moved its headquarters from California to Charlotte in 2019 and increased its presence in Charlotte through its merger with Total Produce, an Irish-based company. Credit Karma's East Coast headquarters was established in Charlotte on May 25, 2021. The corporate office of Cedar Fair is in southwest Charlotte.
