More about Will County, Illinois

Will County was created in 1836 by Cook and Iroquois. It was named for Dr. Conrad Will who was a businessman and politician involved in salt production in southern Illinois. Will was a member of the first Illinois Constitutional Convention, and until his death in 1835, a member of the Illinois Legislature. Will County was created from Cook County, Iroquois County on January 12, 1836. It included, in addition to its current area, the Kankakee County, Illinois, north of the Kankakee River. Kankakee County was established in 1852, and Will County lost this area. Its boundaries have remained the same since then.
