I retained this law firm for an uncontested divorce. They were helpful and kind. I did find some of my experience a little less than ideal though. I thought communication could be a little clearer. I say this because I was not told until the last minute that a hearing would be required for my case until I came into the sign my final paperwork. This had not been previously discussed with me and I was told several times I would just come sign the papers and then I’d be done. When I got to the hearing, information that I had communicated to the attorney’s team several times was not included in the paperwork presented to the judge and had to be written in at the last minute. I was nervous this would further prolong a process I was very anxious to be finished with. After the hearing, because the information was missing I could not receive my decree right away. I was told by the judge I would need to get it certified to move forward with changing my name back. The attorney and his team told me that I would have to get it certified myself because the clerk’s office will charge them for a certified copy but would not charge me. This meant another trip out to the courthouse to get a certified copy that I DID have to pay for. It wasn’t a large fee only a little over $11 but also took time out of my work day and paid for parking only to have the information provided to me be miscommunicated again. Overall, it did make an experience that has already been pretty difficult even worse. I wish the attorney/his team had just spent a more time laying out what to expect and issues that could arise, but I do understand these cases are probably not their top priority. I guess it just sucked for that to be evident in how it was handled.
