Utah Bankruptcy Attorney Robert S. Payne has been a practicing attorney in Utah since 1999. He is also licensed in Arizona (inactive status). During the past 7 years, his emphasis was consumer bankruptcy, and he filed the most chapter 7 bankruptcies in the state of Utah for both 2009 and 2010. Since 2007, Robert's primary emphasis has been bankruptcy law, with Utah bankruptcy law being about 95% of his practice. Because he has filed so many bankruptcies, Robert has been exposed to many different situations which families and individuals face when filing bankruptcy, especially in Utah. Robert is in the federal courthouse (what we call the Utah Bankruptcy Court or Bankruptcy Court for the District of Utah) about 3 days a week arguing chapter 13 cases or various motions for his chapter 7 and chapter 13 clients. Robert also attends 341 Meetings of Creditors in Provo, Salt Lake, and Ogden anywhere from 3-5 days a week. In other words, he burns a lot of gas and spends a lot of time in court practicing, learning, and living bankruptcy law.At this point in his career, it is fairly normal to file a bankruptcy to stop a pending foreclosure or trustee's sale, email a payroll office to stop a garnishment, and then send a batch of letters threatening creditors with sanctions for violating the automatic stay of bankruptcy, all before he has time to update his Facebook status in the morning. Over the 14 years of his career, Robert has handled cases ranging from sexual harassment to spousal abuse, from general litigation between neighbors regarding boundary disputes to complex litigation between large companies over speaker phone technology. He has also taught research at the BYU Law School (J. Reuben Clark School of Law), served as staff attorney for the 2nd District Court of Utah, and, of course, handled many, many bankruptcy cases.
