For nearly 20 years, Peter McCoy has been a name in the South Carolina legal community that is known as a tested, trusted, honorable, and ethical trial lawyer. Peter was born in Charleston. He is the son of a retired school teacher and a career employee at Sonoco Products company. Peter earned a bachelor of arts degree in history and religion from Hampden-Sydney College in Farmville Virginia and earned his Juris Doctor from Regent University School of Law in Virginia Beach Virginia. After clerking both summers during law school at the Ninth Circuit Solicitor’s office in Charleston South Carolina, Peter was offered a job as an Assistant Solicitor (Criminal Prosecutor) in Charleston. Peter served as an Assistant Solicitor in Charleston County for over five years where he prosecuted the most serious offenses in Charleston County. Peter tried over thirty-five jury trials and handled thousands of pleas for crimes ranging from Murder, Armed Robbery, Burglaries, Trafficking Drug Offenses, Gun Offenses, and White Collar criminal charges. He tried complex multi-codefendant cases as well as argued significant motions during his time as a criminal prosecutor.
