I’d like to share my experience working with Brian Hodgkiss personal injury attorney. I just settled about a month ago. The accident I was involved in took place nearly 3 years ago. I feel I got the runaround the entire time. In that time I had two paralegals that left/were terminated. Anytime one of them left, I had to get the new one up to speed on my case (ie resubmitting photos, etc). When I received my first lowball offer from the insurance company, one of the paralegals “Kyle” gave me the breakdown of the proceeds. My first conversation with him went something like this, “this is what you’d get, this is what we’d get. we can keep trying if you want”. This did not make me feel they were working to get the most possible compensation for my case, mind you this was the insurance company’s first offer. There were a lot of discrepancies around the defendants insurance policy as well, and no effort was put into discovery. When a name on the policy is blacked out, that is probably something worth investigating, it was obvious they were hiding something. At closing a laundry list of fees, that were never disclosed or discussed, was presented. One being a mediator to the tune of $900, that was just my half. The mediator was entirely unnecessary. I also had gathered my own quotes for possible procedures, from providers, trying to help build the case. At closing more money was awarded, BUT in the end after his fees and the list of expenses, I would have come out about $2500-$3000 ahead, had I taken the insurance companies first offer. Even after a medical bill discount they got for me was figured into the equation (I’m being fair as possible) In retrospect I’m pretty sure I would have faired much better dealing with the insurance company myself, even if the final figure wasn’t quite as high. My perspective is Hodgkiss law is more concerned with high volume, less work in regards to cases. Low hanging fruit so to speak. They seem VERY backed up. At one consultation I caught a glance of an IPad as he was scrolling to find my case, there were a lot of cases. Nice enough guy, but I would not recommend him. My takeaway, if you are tenacious, and can deal with paperwork, hold off on a lawyer. That extra 10-15% a lawyer may get you will not benefit from.
