Kelly Benavides was assigned to me as my court appointed attorney for 2 felonies that I was wrongfully accused of, due to the fact that an investigator with HPD decided it would be OK if he falsely accused me of using someone's personal info (name, social, DOB, etc) to obtain a credit card, even though the crimes were actually committed by a man with the same first and last name as me, but a different middle name than mine. After being arrested on a warrant for 2 felony charges that I knew nothing about and had no involvement in, I wanted to know how I was charged with these offenses, so I conducted my own investigation and quickly discovered how and why they linked me to these crimes. I explained everything to Ms. BENAVIDES. She listened without talking, verified the facts I presented that proved my innocence, and came to court, showed the prosecutors the mistakes they made, and within just a few minutes, she was standing in front of me telling me the best news I've heard in a long time: ALL CHARGES AGAINST ME WERE DISMISSED AND I WAS FREE TO GO!!!!!! I admit I was very skeptical about whether or not a court appointed public defender would be able to help me in any way with this matter. Ms. Benavides truly fought for me and stood up to the prosecutors who were trying to send me to prison and ruin my life for something I didn't do. She handled my case in the most professional manner, and I can't say enough good things about her! I am forever grateful to Ms Benavides for finally ending this nightmare that could have easily ruined my life and left my son and daughter without their best friend- their Dad! I was in a really tough situation seeing that I drive for a living. I had cases as far back from 2009 and they handled everything quickly and assertively. I was able to get my drivers license today and I only have this law office to thank. Stefanie was fantastic. Daily updates even if there was truly no update. Stay far away from her,if she happens to be your court appointed lawyer you will stay in jail a long time and get reset and doesn't even pick up phone or get dismissed,she will make you sign some bogus conviction if you are not careful or have family help,please hire a private attorney,even in court day she just comes in and out and does not discuss anything with you or tries to help or protect your rights
