Guthrie County, Iowa's county seat is Guthrie Center. The region is known for its agricultural history and rolling hills with much land dedicated to farming. The Middle Raccoon River runs through the county providing opportunities for fishing and other outdoor pursuits. Furthermore, there are several parks and recreational areas such as Lake Panorama - one of the largest man-made lakes in Iowa.
Guthrie County was home to one of the largest coal mines in the state during the late 1800s and early 1900s.
