Winder is a small city located in Barrow County, Georgia, United States. It is situated about 50 miles northeast of Atlanta and is considered part of the Atlanta metropolitan area.
One interesting fact about Winder is that it was once known as Jug Tavern, due to a tavern located there that served jugs of whisky to travelers. The city was later renamed Winder in honor of John H. Winder, who was a Confederate general during the American Civil War. Winder is home to the Georgia State Railroad Museum, which is a popular attraction for history buffs and railway enthusiasts. The museum is located in a historic roundhouse and features a collection of vintage steam engines and railcars.

Whitlow played for the Washington Redskins and was a member of the team's Super Bowl XVII winning squad. Another famous person from Winder is musician, Phyllis Hyman, who was a popular jazz and R&B singer in the 1970s and 1980s. Hyman was born in Philadelphia but spent much of her childhood in Winder.
