The Mammoth Ski Museum was opened in the town in 2004. It featured posters, photos, and vintage artifacts. The museum also shows a movie that documents the lives of the founder and early skiers. An exhibit featuring photographs by Dave McCoy was created in 2010.
After a jury trial, the Mono County Superior Court entered an $83 million judgment against the Town of Mammoth Lakes in 2008 for violating a development agreement. In December 2010, the California Court of Appeal Third District affirmed the judgment. The California Supreme Court did not hear the appeal on March 23, 2011. Mammoth Lakes filed for bankruptcy on Monday, July 2, 2012. The bankruptcy was later dismissed by Mammoth Lakes as a result of a settlement between them and their largest creditor.
