Prairie County's agriculture is just as important in the twenty-first century as it was in 1903. The majority of the industry in the region is still farm-related, particularly rice, soybeans, and cotton. The exhaustion in the region's water supply is a problem. Through years of usage, both the Alluvial aquifers and Sparta have been depleted. The Grand Prairie Area Demonstration project was created to supply sufficient water to agricultural enterprises within the county. Water is collected from the White River near DeValls Bluff, and distributed throughout the region.
The county is home to James Calvin Minor and Fiddlin’ Bob Larkan, two musicians. Many sites within the county are on the National Register of Historic Places. These include Wingmead and the Des Arc American Legion Hut.
