Logan County is located in northwestern Arkansas' Arkansas River Valley. It has two county seats, Paris and Booneville. Magazine, Blue Mountain and Caulksville are all incorporated communities.
Logan County wasn't created until 1871. However, it has had a major impact on the development and growth of western Arkansas since territorial times. Logan County is home to some of the oldest settlements found in western Arkansas. Roseville was a bustling port on the Arkansas River that played an important role in the river transport of goods and people during territorial times and throughout the century. Booneville, established in 1830, was the only trading hub between Fort Smith and Dardanelle. Logan County's diverse contributions to transportation, agriculture and timber production, coal mining, natural gas production, and industry have fueled the economic growth of this region. Logan County was primarily an agricultural region with small farms that grow cotton and corn, raise beef cattle, and produce poultry. Natural gas, timber, coal, and coal are other resources that have helped to boost the economy. Tourism began to play a significant role in the economy during the second half of the 1900s when Mount Magazine State Park was created and other recreational facilities were built.
