I had the best experience working with Susan for my divorce case and would recommend her over and over. When searching and asking around for the best divorce lawyer in Rhode Island, I kept finding Susan's name and for good reason. I don't usually write reviews but I respect Susan and her expertise so much: very smart, thoughtful, earnest, kind, and responsive. I always felt like she had time for me and was in my corner with persistence. In a challenging situation, I feel grateful that I got to work with her and I felt very understood throughout. I got the exact outcome I wanted with Susan's help. Thank you again!

I hired Susan to advocate for me during my divorce process. I am writing this review as my ex-husband had some choice words to say in his one star review. I’ll say this. If your ex spouse is giving your attorney a one-star Google review— chances are the attorney did their job and the ex spouse isn’t happy with the outcome. Did I hire another attorney at one point? Yes. Due to extenuating circumstances which I am not at liberty to disclose to protect Susan’s privacy, it made sense for me to have alternative representation for a short time. As soon as it made sense, I didn’t hesitate to re-retain Susan to get her back on my case. Susan has wonderful bedside manner and came through for me during some of my darkest days.

Susan initially represented my ex-wife in our divorce proceedings, but her handling of the case was disorganized and unprofessional, leading to the retention of a new attorney to finish it. She was unable to settle anything, and her approach was chaotic. Throughout the process, Susan instructed her client to disregard automatic court orders and even lie. Here are a few points based on my experience: Do not provide her office with discovery until she provides it to you first. Do not trust everything she says—ensure all agreements are in writing and filed with the court. Listen to your attorney and avoid trying to be reasonable with Susan. Be assertive, and honestly, you don’t need an attorney to go up against her. Based on my experience with Susan, I would NOT recommend hiring her for any criminal case or even Family Court matters. Also, her response time is poor, she is rarely in the office, and she doesn't work on Fridays. Good luck! More UPDATES to come.

When Perkins was hired, she was “working from home” due to an illness or surgery that sounded serious, but she stated she was recovering. During the next 2.5 months, my daughter had a horrible experience with communication — and waiting hours or had no shows when Attorney Perkins set phone meeting times. My daughter repeatedly took time off work without even an update from the office staff to cancel or reschedule when Perkins could not attend the meeting she set up. Fees were incurred for half of the $4500 retainer, and asked when for an update on the divorce in November, Perkins stated she had surgery and was not available until perhaps the following week. Understanding that she probably has a huge number of clients, my daughter was concerned about the delay. So a different attorney was contacted and hired by my daughter to complete the case. When asked about the resudual, Perkin’s office manager simply states “the retainer is not refundable.” I guess the retainer is still in escrow somewhere. I cannot recommend her representation at all. Calling a 28 year old female client “kiddo” is condescending and unprofessional, Susan. Blowing off people who are taking time from a minimum wage job is unacceptable. Keeping a monetary retainer that was held for fees you never earned or billed when you became unavailable to represent may be contractual but ethically questionable. You really oversold yourself as wanting to represent someone who was working class, and your millionaire client stories were not inspiring — and to describe your work in your email as “zealous” is a huge stretch in this case. Good luck to you.

I was very satisfied with Attorney Perkins. She understood my situation and was very patient, understanding and determined to get the best final outcome. She worked diligently on my case and never gave up or in. Attorney Perkins is highly recommend.
