After a promising free consult, I was really excited to work with Bettina Holton for my divorce (I even recommended her to a friend!). She seemed so professional and responsive and I felt like she was the right person for the job. Fast forward 2 months later and I’ve already fired her (as has the friend that I recommended Bettina to). She was not professional nor responsive and she kept $500 of my retainer with no invoice or explanation of how she determined that she had done $500 worth of work. We exchanged 3 brief emails and had 1 six minute phone call. I have emailed to ask for a detailed invoice of services and received no response. I think she attracts clients with a low retainer and then doesn’t do the work required to actually keep her clients. I strongly recommend looking elsewhere for representation. It’s worth it to spend a bit more to get the right lawyer for the job.

This counselor was an embarrassment to the courtroom. She had no respect for the judge (who also happened to be female, so gender issues are ruled out) or the other parties involved in this family case. If you'd like to look like an absolute fool, lose custody of your children and everything you own, then hire this textbook example of "should've just went with the one that cost a little more".

Bettina was fantastic. I wouldn't say our divorce was messy, but it was very emotional and a bit complicated, especially with respect to custody. Bettina really helped us through the tough conversations, and we both ended up with an aggreement we were happy with. What's more, Bettina actually caught mistakes in our agreement that our own lawyers had missed. Would definitely recommend.
