Ethical Mindset

I was recently involved in an auto accident, and needed an attorney to assist in getting the citation dismissed. I called many attorneys to see whom I felt would be able to help me. Many were willing, but, what set the Dest law firm apart from the rest, was their knowledge and willingness to explain the process and possible outcomes without me having the dreaded gut feeling of them not caring about what the outcome would be. We set up a time to call and discuss my citation and info, which was a breeze. Mrs. Dest, was super polite and made me feel at ease. I was more than confident that she would do her best to get the citation dismissed. My citation was dismissed! I am so appreciative of the Dests for assisting me with this matter. To offer perspective, it has been my pleasure to deal with Mr. Dest on a daily basis for the last 50 years. My first career was as an officer in the United States Marine Corps. Mr. Dest excels as an attorney in many ways. First and foremost is the amount of extra care and expertise he applies into every client as well as each case. A famous judge from the palmetto state once opined from his bench: "You know Harry Dest shows up prepared for each and every case, you will never catch him on a bad day." He selflessly dedicated his life to the public defender's office for the State of South Carolina where he started his first position immediately out of law school. Over the next 30 years he not only developed a reputation as one of the finest criminal defense attorneys in the country, but he far surpassed other public defenders by actively working to improve defense counsel for all South Carolina indigent defense clients. He served 11 years on the South Carolina House of Representatives Indigent Defense Committee. He pursued these initiatives of his own accord, working above and beyond his role and responsibilities as a traditional public defender. As his reputation continued to grow, so did his responsibilities. His last position was serving as the head of the 16th Circuit Public Defender. Practically speaking, he was the person responsible for all South Carolina counties serving as bedroom communities for the Greater Charlotte Area. During his entire career, he never shied away from a fight. He litigated some of the most difficult criminal cases in the state of South Carolina each and every day for 30 years. But for one of the greatest trial attorney's in our country, he is extremely humble and down to earth. Other attorney's would gladly 'humble brag' about the great legal minds who have sought criminal defense advice from Mr. Dest, but he will not. You can trust me as a Marine, you have heard many of their names, often within their own advertisements. Mr. Dest's criminal defense expertise has been solicited on national television many times over the years. This includes major media outlets and television shows such as the Oprah Winfrey Show. Throughout all the state's penitentiaries, he is known by his call sign: "Smooth Cut." But beyond all of Mr. Dest's professional accomplishments, is his measure as a man. Mr. Dest is a husband and father. He is also a proud member of his church where he and his family enthusiastically attend service every Sunday. Harry Dest 'walks the walk' even within his Sunday worship. Having attended service with Mr. Dest, I serve witness that his congregation is integrated and contains all walks of life. Harry's tent is big. In closing, Harry is one of the most motivating and selfless people it has been my pleasure to know. His leadership is like High Tide, he raises all ships around him. It was Harry's positive influence which motivated me to go into the practice of law upon retiring from the Marine Corps 25 years ago. From my 25 years of practicing law, there is no doubt that Harry Dest is by far the best criminal defense attorney in the country. Hands down, it is not even close. It is also my opinion that, given the level of expertise and ability the client receives, Mr. Dest never charges enough.
