About Bartenfield Injury Law, P.L.L.C.

J. David Bartenfield was born in Greensboro in 1962 in Moses Cone Memorial Hospital. He was the first child in a family of eight. He grew up in Hunter Hills. Because of desegregation Mr. Bartenfield attended first grade at Braxton Craven Elementary, second grade at Hunter Elementary, third grade at Joyner Elementary, fourth grade at Hunter Elementary, fifth grade at Foust Elementary and sixth through eigth grades at Guilford Junior High School before completing high school at Western Guilford High School. David was a bright student and an exceptional athlete. At Western Guilford he claimed the Allstate Batting Title setting a North Carolina record with a hitting average of .684. He was the high school football quarterback and dreamed of playing professional baseball. In 1982 David enrolled at Elon University. He played catcher for the Elon Fighting Christians and made the Dean's list every semester until his matriculation, with honors, in 1986. David obtained a B.A. in English with a minor in Philosophy. David was accepted at Campbell University School of Law and obtained his Juris Doctrate in 1989. His first employment was with solo practicioner Marquis D. Street in Greensboro where he learned the art of practicing Personal Injury law under the exceptional guidance of Attorney Street. David worked three years with Marquis D. Street before joining the firm of Alspaugh, Carruthers and Rivenbark where he continued to exclusively practice Personal Injury law. In 1992 James Rivenbark returned to his native Wilmington and the law firm of Alspaugh & Carruthers was established where David continued to practice Personal Injury law as an associate. In 1997 David was lifted to partner with the law firm of Alspaugh, Carruthers and Bartenfield. This law practice dissolved and David hung his shingle out at 903 West Market Street where he continues to practice today as the founding attorney of Bartenfield Injury Law. Mr. Bartenfield has handled literally thousands, if not tens of thousands personal injury claims, settlements, mediations, arbitrations and trials. He maintains a philosophy that even the plaintiff with the small case deserves competent representation and his sense of justice seldom allows him to turn away a justiciable claim. David plays guitars and sings and is unusually creative in the often dry environment of the practice of law. He has parlayed his creativity and applies often unthought of approaches and arguments in a profession commonly dominated by boilerplate formulas. Mr. Bartenfield is a fierce advocate. He has dedicated his entire career to advancing the cause of the individual against the overwhelming power of large corporations. He enjoys what he does and is truly dedicated to a lifetime career representing personal injury claimants and litigants.
