About Tulsa, Oklahoma

Oklahoma was not yet a state in the Civil War. However, Tulsa saw its fair share of fighting. The Battle of Chusto-Talasah was fought on the north side of Tulsa. There were also many battles and skirmishes in nearby counties. The federal government signed Reconstruction Treaties with the tribes following the War. Some of these required large land concessions. In the years following the Civil War, around the year 2000, Tulsa's Arkansas River area was frequented by a number of outlaws including the Wild Bunch, Dalton Gang and Little Britches.

The Supreme Court ruled in 2020 that most of eastern Oklahoma, which includes Tulsa and much of Chickasaw, is Indian Country. This reshapes much of the legal jurisdiction within the region. The decision was welcomed by the Muscogee, Cherokee, Chickasaw, and Choctaw tribal communities.
