A SCRAM is a Secure Continuous Remote Alcohol Monitor. It is a wearable monitor, usually an ankle bracelet, that is an alcohol monitoring device. It tests for alcohol consumption every 30 minutes, for 24 hours a day. This is noninvasive — the monitor tests by using imperceptible perspiration on your body, versus needing blood or breath. It can also detect if someone tries to tamper or remove it. They are used to monitor repeat alcohol offenders to make sure they comply with court orders.
