Dating between 18- and 15-year-olds is legal, it's the sexual activity that would cause an issue. Each U.S. state has their own age of consent, but none of them are as young as 15. They all range from 16-18 years old. As a result, one person in that relationship is an adult and has reached the age of consent in the eyes of the law, and the other has not. Statutory laws come into play here -- where what the intention is does not matter, even if the 15-year-old says they consented. Once the action is done, it is a simple yes or no, black and white question as to whether or not a crime was committed. While the state is not knocking on every teenager's door to check in on this, if there is anyone who reports it or brings it to a prosecutor, charges will get filed.
