Two industries were established in the county before 1973: Ozark Woodworking and Blanchard Shirt Corporation. These two businesses provided women with their first jobs outside of the home. Blanchard Springs Caverns and the Ozark Folk Cultural Center were opened in 1973. It opened in April for the Arkansas Folk Festival. Officially, it opened in May. The summer saw the opening of the caverns. The county received the economic boost it had been hoping for with the opening of the national parks and the state. This was in addition to the creation of a new industry, tourism. Local musicians and craftspeople began to receive income when the folk center was opened. Their work consisted of daily tasks like making lye soap or shoeing horses. The county's main industries, timber, poultry, and livestock, continue to be major contributors to its economy. However, several new industries have been created. Conestoga Wood Specialties was established in 1988. They make solid wood drawer fronts for cabinets and doors for cabinets. With approximately 250 employees, it became the largest company within the county.
