Greenwood's Historic District contains the Old Jail Museum, Vineyard Cabin, an antique barn with tools, a one-room schoolhouse, and the Coal Miners' Memorial Park.
William Blaylock was a bachelor school teacher who built the Vineyard Cabin. He lived there and taught school until his marriage in 1850. He added another room to the cabin after his marriage. The rooms were constructed of rough-hewn oak timbers. They were notched, stacked, and pegged to make the walls. It was taken from its original site outside the city and moved into Greenwood proper.
The Sebastian Jail is the oldest building in downtown Greenwood. It was built in 1892. It survived the fire of 1922 and the tornado that decimated most of the buildings in the town in 1968. It is made of stone quarried from Backbone Mountain. The building was used during the Great Depression as a cannery. The Works Progress Administration employed women to make cotton mattresses in the building. The restoration of the jail and subsequent renovation to a museum that is now on the National Register of Historic Places began in 1994. The Old Jail Museum can now be toured by appointment or seasonally.
