Newton County native William A. Hudson studied blood iodine levels while at Washington University, Montreal's Royal Victoria Hospital, and Detroit's Ford Hospital. In 1924, he produced iodized table sea salt. William Stiritz, a Newton County native, was elected chairman of Ralston-Purina's 1982 board. Tim Ernst, a local resident, is a noted writer and wilderness photographer. James Carl Hefley was a Mount Judea resident who wrote the Way Back in the Hills books. They were published between 1985 and 1996. Howard "Ozark Monk", Hefley was his brother and he wrote the Way Back in the Ozarks book series published in 1992-93. Max D.
