Sam Bacon, a Pacheco merchant, was the first to make the move to Todos Santos/Concord. He reopened his general merchandise shop at the corner of Salvio Street and Galindo Streets in 1869. Concord would soon be a thriving agricultural community in central Contra Costa County, thanks to the rapid expansion of other merchants. In 1879, there was a population of 300. By February 1905, the population would have doubled when the incorporation of "Town Concord" was approved by a two-vote margin.
The population would double in 35 years. Small town Concord would begin World War II with an extraordinary high school, a modern hospital, five churches, two railroads, a fine library, a nationally-recognized central plaza, two cinemas, a full-service downtown commercial area, tree-lined streets, comfortable homes, and a population of only 1,400. After the war, there was an increase in population. In January 1948, Concord became the City of Concord, a growing neighborhood with 6,500 people. Soon the new city would grow to include the northern part of Rancho San Miguel. This Rancho San Miguel was originally granted to Salvio's uncle Miguel Pacheco. The farms, orchards, and old Rancho are now neighborhoods. The classic old downtown is multi-story. Concord is home to a diverse population of 125,000 people. It was also the largest city in Contra Costa County in 2000. Concord is proud of its rich past and is confident in its future.
