About Hudson County, New Jersey

The majority of Hudson County, except West Hudson, was once part of Bergen Township. This was established by the New Jersey Legislature in 1798. It was one of the first 104 New Jersey townships to be formed. However, the area was still part of Bergen County. Bergen Township was originally composed of the Hudson River, Hackensack River, and the Bergen Point area. It also included the current Hudson-Bergen border. Over the next 127 years, the county's civic boundaries took many forms until Union City was created in 1925.

An act of the New Jersey Legislature created Jersey City. It was formed from parts of Bergen Township on January 28, 1820. On January 23, 1829, the city was incorporated again. It was again incorporated on February 22, 1838. At that time, it was completely independent of Bergen Township and received its current name. It was incorporated into the newly formed Hudson County on February 22, 1840. Jersey City grew and several nearby communities were annexed. These included Van Vorst Township on March 18, 1851, Bergen City and Hudson City, Greenville Township on February 4, 1873, and Greenville Township on February 4, 1873.

Attorney At Law is changing how clients connect with lawyers. By providing an innovative platform to lawyers who want to expand their practice’s reach, AAL is bringing law practices into the future.
