Limestone County in Central Texas is an area renowned for its rich history, natural resources and cultural heritage. The county takes its name from its abundance of limestone deposits found there which were used as building materials since early Texas settlement. Limestone County features rolling hills, fertile farmland and numerous creeks and rivers making it a prime spot for outdoor activities such as fishing, hunting and hiking. Groesbeck serves as its seat and is well known for its historic charm and community spirit.

Limestone County has played a pivotal role in Texas history since its beginnings. Fort Parker State Park commemorates this landmark by honoring its history and providing visitors with insight into what life was like for early Texan settlers. Fort Parker was established as a frontier fort in 1833 to protect settlers against Native American raids; most notably it became notorious when nine-year old Cynthia Ann Parker was captured by Comanche warriors and brought back into white society later. Today Fort Parker State Park preserves this history while giving visitors insight into life for early Texas settlers during these early days.

Notable residents from Limestone County include U.S. Congressman Jack Z. Smith, who represented Texas during the early 20th century; and Bob Wills, commonly referred to as the "King of Western Swing," who revolutionized country music with his unique sound.
