Saint Paul, also known as St. Paul, is the capital of the U.S state of Minnesota. It also serves as the county seat for Ramsey County. Saint Paul, Minnesota's capital and government center, is situated on high bluffs with a view of the Mississippi River bend. On a hill near the city's central district, sits the Minnesota State Capitol and state government offices. Saint Paul is one of the oldest cities in Minnesota. It has many historic neighborhoods and landmarks such as the Summit Avenue Neighborhood and the James J. Hill House. Saint Paul, like Minneapolis, is well-known for its humid, cold summers and snowy winters.
In November 1849, the Legislative Assembly of the Minnesota Territory created the Town of St. Paul to be its capital. It was located near existing Dakota Sioux settlements. It was a town from 1849 to 1854. For the river's "white rock" bluffs, "Imnizaska", the Dakota name for Saint Paul is "Imnizaska". There are two sports venues in the city: Xcel Energy Center for the Minnesota Wild and Allianz Field for Minnesota United.
