Carroll County, Indiana is a rural oasis situated between Lafayette and Kokomo. It's known for its picturesque countryside and natural splendor. There are several parks and recreational areas throughout Carroll County such as the Carroll County Community Center or Wabash and Erie Canal Park with hiking trails and historic sites.
One remarkable fact about Carroll is its former prominence as a major center for Indiana coal mining. From the late 19th to early 20th centuries, numerous coal mines were located here, providing employment and economic growth to the county. Nowadays, much of Carroll's economy revolves around agriculture and manufacturing activities; however, remnants of this past can still be seen at many historic sites and museums throughout the county.
Carroll County has produced many notable individuals over the years, such as country music singer-songwriter Darryl Worley. Born in Memphis but spending much of his childhood in Pyrmont, Indiana, Worley is best known for his hit songs "Have You Forgotten?" and "Awful, Beautiful Life." Another well-known resident was William O. Lipps who served as Chief Justice of Indiana Supreme Court from 1986 to 1990.
Carroll County's iconic event of the year is the Carroll County 4-H Fair. Held annually in July, this summer festival offers livestock shows, carnival rides, live entertainment and other attractions that draw residents and visitors alike - an event that has been running for over 100 years!
