Bull Shoals Lake is 14 miles from Yellville. Bull Shoals Dam was responsible for creating the lake. It was constructed between 1947 and 1951. Although Yellville has not seen the same tourism dollars as other communities like Bull Shoals and Diamond City, Yellville does have motels that can be used by people who visit the area. Many Yellville residents also work in tourism-related jobs.
The main industries in the area have been agricultural. This includes fur trading and the cultivation of cotton, tomatoes, strawberries, timber, and other crops. Southern Marion County is well-known for its cedar wood. Yellville has seen some small manufacturing and information technology developments in the 21st century. Yellville was the location of Ampeg's bass guitar amplifiers from 1994 to 2007. Altrionic Research, which makes equipment for broadcasting, and communications, and Shawnee Manufacturing which builds and repairs boats, are two other manufacturers still in business. In November 2011, American Stitchoo--which makes automotive and non-automotive products that are stitched, stuffed, heat sealed, screen printed, or embroidered--reopened its Yellville factory.
