Lonoke provided two governors for the state: James P. Eagle (1888) and Joseph T. Robinson (1913). Robinson was also a congressman, U.S. senator, and the Democratic candidate for vice president in 1928. Lonoke also produced William Claude Bradford who served as the Arkansas National Guard's assistant adjutant general in World War I; William Heber McLaughlin who served in France during World War I and was a member of the Arkansas General Assembly; and Captain Maurice Lee "Footsie", who was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor and served as Arkansas’s lieutenant governor between 1966 and 1970.
Other Lonoke natives include Frank Robert McCrary, a pioneering U.S. Navy pilot; Eddie Hamm who set the South's first Olympic record for the broad jump at the 1928 Olympics in Amsterdam; Jim Lee Howell who was the head coach of New York Giants from 1954 until 1960 and won the championship in 1956; Elsijane Trimble, who was Arkansas's first female federal judge and state's first female judge, in 1966.
