A trading post was established in 1825 about one mile from present-day Morrilton, Arkansas River. After being incorporated in 1844, this town was later called Lewisburg. The Little Rock and Fort Smith Railroad constructed a track through Morrilton in 1871. After the landowners E.J. George H. Morrill. The Morrills' land and James M. Moose's property were the foundations of downtown. The river was no longer a major draw for Lewisburg residents. They moved to Morrilton, a railroad hub. Conway County was established in Arkansas in 1883. Morrilton was named the seat of Conway County.
