When her GPS told her to turn, the young lady beside me obeyed without question, disregarding the fact that I was in the way of her giant SUV. She turned into the side of my vehicle, throwing my body so hard against the seatbelt that it injured my neck, chest and a disc in my back. My husband was out of state, I was the sole caregiver to my 90 year old deaf mother with significant physical limitations and dementia, and my frisky dogs were overdue for a walk. When the ER released me six hours later, I hurt EVERYWHERE.On top of all that, the hospital billing department called first thing the next morning, and the ambulance bill arrived in three days. The police officer who had my vehicle towed had given me the wrong name and contact number for the collision shop that towed it. My insurance company was less than no help. They wanted me to go pick up a rental car that was so tiny that getting in and out of it intensified the pain, and then to drive it to pick up a copy of the accident report and track down the location of my wrecked vehicle. Apparently they lacked the technology to do this without me personally driving all over town. The other driver’s insurance company never bothered contacting me at all. In the meantime, I was experiencing new levels of pain intensity that made it hard to make the smallest moves and even to draw deep breaths. A week passed. When trying and failing - again - to reach my insurance adjustor, I asked the receptionist, “Should I contact a lawyer to help me with this?” Her silence said it all.Josh Branch didn’t make my pain better.
