If I could deliver negative stars, I would. I was referred to Jay Beatty via the State Bar of Texas. I had been searching for a consultation to understand better how to handle being sued for a debt. I am no lawyer; I have no formal legal education (hence seeking advice from someone who knew what they were talking about). I paid $20 in hopes of gaining some clarity on what my next steps should be. Within minutes of our consultation, Jay was off-putting. I had problems with my home printer and opted to bring my documents on my laptop. Jay, unable to operate a laptop, asked if I could email him the documents. I gladly sent them. After leaving the room to print said documents, Jay returns with a snarky remark, "Funny how that works." Okay... I let that go. Delving further into the issue at hand, Jay realizes there is no defense. I'm not seeking a way out of my responsibilities; I am seeking advice on approaching them. I ask how am I supposed to write an answer to the court: fish out of water here. His response is, "Well, I can't show you without doing it for you." This blatant condescending tone and rude demeanor continued maybe 10 minutes before I walked out. I quickly realized this man didn't see a profitable client, which meant I wasn't entitled to be spoken to with respect or given the time of day to offer a bit of guidance.
