Charles graduated from the University of North Dakota School of Law with distinction in 1995. Charles clerked for District Court Judge John P. Smith and prosecuted as Assistant Cass County Attorney while residing in Walker, Minnesota. Charles served as the Alternative Public Defender for the White Earth Reservation where he championed the rights of tribal members who were charged with crimes in Becker, Mahnoman, and Clearwater counties and served as city prosecutor for Hawley, Minnesota while residing in the Fargo-Moorhead area. Charles has been recognized as one of the Top 100 DWI attorneys in Minnesota by The National Advocacy for DUI Defense, LLC (NAFDD) and was selected as one of the Top 100 Criminal Defense lawyers in the State of Minnesota by The American Society of Legal Advocates (ASLA).
