About Dallas, Texas

Fort Worth and Dallas were developed initially due to major railroad lines running through the region that allowed access to oil and cotton in North and East Texas. Dallas's status as a transportation hub was strengthened by the construction of the Interstate Highway System. It has four major interstate highways that connect the city, and one loop around it. Dallas became a significant industrial and financial hub and major inland port thanks to the convergence between major railroad lines and interstate highways. It also saw the construction of Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport which is one of the busiest and largest airports in the United States. Dallas also has DART, which includes different colors of train lines that run throughout the Metroplex.

Its diverse economy is dominated by defense, financial services, and information technology. Twenty-three Fortune 500 companies call Dallas-Fort Worth home. This is the second largest number in Texas and the fourth in the United States. Eleven of these companies are within Dallas's city limits. Its metropolitan area is home to 41 colleges and universities, the highest number of any Texas metropolitan area. It is home to a diverse population, including people from many religious and ethnic backgrounds. The city also has one of the largest LGBT communities in America. WalletHub ranked Dallas as the fifth most diverse American city in 2018.
