Two of four hijacked aircraft were flown into Twin Towers at the original World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. The towers later collapsed. Fires and structural damage from heavy debris from the Twin Towers' collapse caused 7 World Trade Center to collapse. Other buildings in the World Trade Center complex were also damaged beyond repair, and they were soon demolished. The Twin Towers collapse caused severe damage to nearby buildings and skyscrapers in Lower Manhattan. This resulted also in the death of 2,606 people. Many residents and rescue workers in the area suffered from life-threatening diseases that led to their deaths.
