St. Mary's University has been home to brilliant scholars for over 90 years. These students have gone on to become leaders in their communities, the state, and the country. The original School of Law, which was established in 1927 as a part-time school, met in the courthouse at night. St. Mary's University graduates have been elected to the United States Congress as governors and lieutenant governors. They also served as justices of the Texas Supreme Court and Texas Court of Criminal Appeals. State legislators, federal judges, and leaders of some of America's most prestigious law offices. The School of Law was named a Best Value Private Law School in the United States by The National Jurist. It is home to advocacy programs astheyll as visiting courts that sometimes hear oral arguments on campus. Some of the faculty at St. Mary's Law are nationally recognized scholars, practitioners, and experts in their subject areas.
