Going to the hospital should be a safe and calming experience. But many times, patients encounter numerous mistakes by staff members that can lead to serious injuries and even death. During the week of November 8, 2010, the California Department of Public Health issued fourteen fines against twelve hospitals across the state.
Continue →FDA Sends Warning to Companies Who Make Caffeinated Alcoholic Drinks
A few weeks ago, the FDA sent warning letters to four firms: Phusion Projects LLC, United Brands Co, New Century Brewing Co and Charge Beverages charging that seven of their drinks combining alcohol and caffeine were unsafe. The FDA found reason for concern that a number of caffeinated alcoholic beverage products do not meet the legal standard for safety,” said FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg. “As a result the agency is moving forward on behalf of public health.”

The FDA recently announced that Xanodyne Pharmaceuticals has agreed to halt marketing of Darvon and the related brand Darvocet, which both contain Propoxyphene, can cause fatal heart rhythms. An estimated 10 million people in the U.S. received prescriptions for Darvon and related drugs in 2009, according to the FDA.

The cribs’ drop-side rail can malfunction, detach or otherwise fail, causing part of the drop side to detach from the crib. When a drop-side rail partially detaches, it creates a space between the drop-side and the crib mattress. An infant or toddler’s body can become entrapped in the space, which can lead to strangulation and/or suffocation. A child also can fall out of the crib. Drop-side incidents also can occur due to incorrect assembly and age-related wear and tear.
