Toyota Recalls 2.3 Million Vehicles Over Sticky Gas Pedals

Responding to “isolated reports” of sticking accelerator pedals in some vehicles, Toyota Motor Corp. has announced the recall of 2.3 million cars, trucks, and SUVs.

The huge recall is separate from the recent recall of 4.2 million Toyota and Lexus vehicles because of the same accelerator problems, which have been blamed for causing vehicles to speed out of control and crash. Some drivers have said the gas pedal became trapped and pinned beneath floor mats and left them unable to control the vehicles.

Nearly two million Toyota vehicles are covered by both recalls, the car maker said. The recalls are part of an ongoing investigation by Toyota into the continuing problems of faulty accelerators.

“In recent months, Toyota has investigated isolated reports of sticking accelerator pedal mechanisms in certain vehicles without the presence of floor mats,” Toyota group Vice President Irv Miller said in the statement, according to an MSNBC.com report.
