Sam’s Club Fruit & Veggie Chopper Recalled
About 6,000 Pedrini Pro Chop Professional Multipurpose Choppers sold at Sam’s Club stores have been recalled following reports of the metal blades breaking off during use and lodging in food.
Lifetime Brands Inc. of Garden City, N.Y. has received three reports of the chopper’s blade breaking off, including one report of a consumer suffering cuts to the mouth from chewing food containing one of the broken blades, the Consumer Product Safety Commission recall notice said.
Defective household appliances and kitchen tools represent a significant risk of injury and death to consumers. Cuts and burns to hands and fingers are the most common types of injuries associated with defective kitchen utensils.
The Pedrini Pro Chop Professional Multipurpose Chopper with model number 5061050 and UPC 024131114849 in included in today’s recall. The product is used as a multipurpose chopper and corer for fruits and vegetables. The model number and UPC are located on the chopper’s packaging.
The recalled products were sold at Sam’s Club locations nationwide from October 2009 through December 2009 for about $25. They were manufactured in China.
Consumers should immediately stop using recalled Pedrini chopper and return it to any Sam’s Club for a full refund, the CPSC said. Sam’s Club also is directly contacting consumers who purchased the recalled choppers.
