Radio Shack Toy Helicopters Recalled Due to Fire Hazard
About 6,000 Danbar Knight Hawk Toy Helicopters sold at Radio Shack are being recalled because they might catch fire during recharging, posing a risk of burn injuries and property damage.
RadioShack Corp., of Fort Worth, Texas and the Consumer Product Safety Commission said today there has been one report of one of the flying toys catching fire. The battery housing under the helicopter canopy can overheat while charging, posing a fire hazard, according to a CPSC recall notice.
The toy helicopter that caught fire was a store model being recharged, but no injuries or property damage have been reported, the CPSC said.
The recall involves Danbar Toys Knight Hawk 3D remote control helicopters, which have model number 006047 printed on the back of the controller and the Knight Hawk 3D logo on the front of the remote controller. They were sold at RadioShack as catalog number 600-0566 (60-566) and were suitable for ages 8 and up.
The recalled helicopters were sold at Radio Shack stores, Radio Shack dealer franchise stores, and at www.radioshack.com from October 2009 through November 2009 for about $60. They were manufactured in China.
Consumers should immediately take the helicopters away from children and return the toys to the nearest RadioShack store for a full refund, the CPSC said.
