MuscleMaster.com Recalls Supplements Due to Illegal Steroids

A total of 17 dietary supplements sold by MuscleMaster.com last year are being recalled because the pills may contain illegal steroids and may cause liver damage in users, the Food and Drug Administration said.

A voluntary, nationwide recall has been announced for the dietary supplements sold between June 1 and November 17, 2009. In addition to acute liver injury, steroids may also cause long-term health problems, including shrinkage of the testes, male infertility, masculine features in women, breast enlargement in women, and increased risks of heart attack, stroke, and death, the FDA recall notice said.

The FDA said the recalled MuscleMaster products contain five ingredients which are classified as steroids, including:

• Superdrol

• Madol

• Tren

• Androstenedione

• Turinabol

Customers who have these products in their possession should stop using them immediately and contact their physician if they have experienced any problems that may be related to using one or more of the products, the FDA said.

Other Supplement Recalls

Dietary supplements made by other companies have also been recalled for containing ingredients the FDA considers steroids.

In November 2009, dozens of muscle-building dietary supplements sold by Bodybuilding.com were recalled because they were suspected of containing potentially harmful steroids. Also, supplements from IDS Sports were recalled for containing undeclared steroids.
