Mattress World Beds Recalled for Violating Flammability Standard

Mattress sets sold at Mattress World stores in the southern U.S. are being recalled today because the products violate federal flammability standards, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said.

About 750 beds from the Dallas-based manufacturer are involved in the recall.

Fires involving mattresses, such as accidents where people fall asleep while smoking or near a candle, fireplace, or other open flame, are responsible for causing many injuries and deaths each year. Federal flammability regulations seek to reduce the risks of such injuries by requiring beds to be flame and fire resistant, but some defective beds which violate those rules still find their way into stores, putting consumers at risk.

There have been no incidents of the Mattress World sets catching fire or causing injuries, the CPSC recall notice said.
