Lowe’s Gas Grills Recalled Due to Fire and Burn Hazards

About 10,000 Master Forge Five-Burner gas grills sold at Lowe’s home-improvement stores are being recalled after reports of the plastic hosing on the grills melting, posing a risk of burns to users.

Sagittarius Sporting Goods of China has received two reports of the gas line hosing melting where it comes into contact with the burner box and rupturing when the grill is lit, the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s recall notice said.

No injuries or property damage have been reported, officials said. However, defective home appliances, including gas and charcoal grills used for backyard barbecues, tailgating parties, and other occasions, are a leading cause of injury and death to consumers. About one million grills and other appliances are recalled each year due to manufacturing or design defects with pose risks of serious injury and death to users.

The recall involves Master Forge five-burner, stainless steel gas grills. The name “Master Forge” is printed on the grill hood and model number L3218 is located on a label inside the left front door of the grill, according to the CPSC.

The recalled grills were sold exclusively at Lowe’s stores nationwide from September 2009 through November 2009 for about $500. They were manufactured in China.

If you have one of the recalled Master Forge gas grills in your possession, the CPSC advises you to immediately stop using the item and contact Sagittarius to obtain a free repair kit.
