LED Light Kits Recalled; May Catch Fire and Cause Burns, CPSC Warns
LED light kits sold by Rockler Companies are being recalled because the lights used in workshops and other locations may overheat and explode, causing burns and other injuries to users, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said.
About 2,200 of the lights sold at Rockler Woodworking and Hardware and other specialty stores are involved in the recall, said the CPSC and Rockler Companies Inc., of Medina, Minn.
While there have been no reports of incidents or injuries involving the defective lights, defective wiring in the light kits can cause the battery pack to overheat and explode, posing a risk of burn and fire hazards to consumers, officials said in a CPSC recall notice issued today.
The recall involves Rockler LED lights with either an interchangeable spotlight head or a magnifying head, the CPSC said. Models with stock numbers 26429 (spotlight) or 27017 (magnifying) are being recalled. The stock numbers are printed on the light’s packaging.
The recalled lights were sold nationwide from March 2009 through October 2009 for about $60. They were manufactured in China.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled LED light kits and contact Rockler Companies to receive a free repair kit and installation instructions, the CPSC said.
