Hunting Tree Steps Recalled After Falls, Injuries
About 16,000 Primal Vantage plastic tree steps used by hunters are being recalled after some users complained the steps broke and caused them to suffer falls, bruises, and cuts.
Primal Vantage Co. Inc. of Randolph, N.J. said the plastic portion of its Ameristep Plastic Strap-On Tree Step may break. The company and the Consumer Product Safety Commission today announced a nationwide voluntary recall of the hunting accessories.
The company has already received five complaints of the steps breaking, including two reports of consumers being bruised and cut from falls, the CPSC said.
The recalled tree steps attach to a tree via a nylon strap and a large metal buckle. They are used to climb a tree in order to hunt from an elevated position.
Two models are included in the recall, models 105 and 155 with a 12/08 date code stamped on the plastic portion of the step, officials said. The recalled steps were made in China and sold in 2009 at outdoor and sporting goods retailers nationwide. They were available as a 3-step package in model 105 or as a single step in model 155.
Consumers who have the recalled Primal Vantage plastic tree steps in their possession should stop using the items immediately. Users should contact Primal Vantage for details on how to obtain a full refund. Consumers are asked not to return the product to retail stores as refunds can only be provided by Primal Vantage, the CPSC said.
