Fall Risk Prompts Recall of Seattle Bike Supply Bicycles & Framesets

About 350 Redline Conquest Pro bicycles and framesets made by Seattle Bike Supply are being recalled because part of the bike frames may break and cause the rider to lose control and fall, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said.

The company has received three reports of forks on the bikes separating and causing injuries in one incident, according to the CPSC recall notice. The bicycle’s fork legs can separate from the fork crown and cause the rider to lost control, posing a risk of serious injury or death if the rider falls, officials said.

Defective products, including faulty bicycle framesets, result in thousands of consumer injuries and deaths in the United States each year. Falls, burns, cuts, and other injuries are commonly caused by defective products.

2010 Model Bikes Recalled

The recall involves all 2010 Redline Conquest Pro Cyclocross bicycles and framesets. The products were sold in pearl white/blue and have aluminum frames with carbon fiber forks and aluminum steerer tubes, the CPSC said. The bikes were manufactured in Taiwan and sold in bicycle specialty stores nationwide between August 2009 and November 2009 for about $1,900 for the bicycle and about $550 for the frameset.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled bicycles and framesets and contact their local Redline bicycle dealer to receive a free inspection and fork replacement, officials said.
